Hello, I am Christina Carder, I will be your color therapist if you chose DPI Quality Custom Finishes for any of your painting needs. We decided that color therapy was a much needed service to offer our clients because although choosing colors for your home should be an exciting and liberating experience, it often ends up becoming overwhelming. I will be here to assist you in this process to make things less stressful and more enjoyable. I’ve been helping homeowner’s make color choices for their homes since 2006 when I recieved my Interior Design degree. At this point, I had been working for a local painting company for a few summers, and decided that painting would be the perfect field for me to really put my degree to good use. I love painting, and the astounding difference that it makes just to change the color of a room. I thought that if I could help people chose colors that really make their homes ‘their own’ that would be gratifying to me. So that is what DPI Quality Custom Finishes is looking to do for you. So know that when making the decision of who to hire to do your painting, that here at DPI Quality Custom Finishes we take color selection just as seriously as we do the actual painting. We’re not going to hand you a color deck and let you go, or try to force the latest trends on you. We will work together to find the colors that will make your home a reflection of you.
Color Therapy Basics
The following are a few things that you will want to think about before we get started with our color therapy session. Warm colors are those seen on the right side of the color wheel; from red violet to yellow. These colors added to any room will give a sense of warmth. If you want to walk into your home and have it seem warm and inviting, than a warm color is just what you’re looking for. Cool colors are those on the left side color wheel starting on top with violet down to yellow green. These colors added to any room will give a cooler or more calming feel to the room. If you want to come home and feel comfortable and relaxed surrounded by calming colors, than cool colors are what you are looking for. We mix and match to find the perfect combination for your home so that it is not too warm or too cool.
Color Schemes
There are three main color schemes that we use in painting homes today. You don’t need to know what color scheme you want to use in order to start choosing your colors.
Monochromatic- A monochromatic color scheme consists of different values, meaning shades and tints of one single color. We use this one a lot, by choosing a color that you really like, we can use other tints or shades of that color to give each room a distinct look without overwhelming the senses. This color scheme has become an extremely popular way for people to express themselves with color, but without feeling surrounded by it.
Analogous- Analogous colors are colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. A few examples are green, yellow green, and yellow; or red, red violet, and violet. It can be tricky, but two or three analogous colors placed just right give a real sophisticated feel to any home.
Complementary- Complimentary colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, such as blue and orange, red and green, purple and yellow. The complimentary color scheme is not for the faint of heart, as this color scheme definitely makes a statement.
